In the center of Chesapeake
Specifically designed to meet the expectations and needs of the older adult seeking both care and independence, Cedar Manor is the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center's assisted-living facility. It was established in fall 2001. Residents here can relax in an upscale environment with round-the-clock medical care.
Located in the heart of Chesapeake, the Cedar Manor assisted living facility accommodates the special needs of residents, now and over the years to come. The manor is surrounded by peaceful woods and a tree-lined drive that leads to a covered entrance. Chandeliers illuminate the lobby and dining room, which overlook a landscaped courtyard. The facility's layout, lighting, furniture, security, and in- and outdoor areas are all designed to enhance an independent lifestyle.
Elegantly decorated areas are available for socializing or privacy. Residents can enjoy the many amenities found here, including the library, living room, parlor, sunrooms and TV room. A private dining room also is available for more intimate occasions or special get-together's with family and friends.
Comfortable and elegant
Comfort and style are trademarks of Cedar Manor. Residents may either personalize their living areas with their own furniture and treasures, or Cedar Manor can provide tasteful furnishings. The private suites, shared suites and studios include kitchenettes with refrigerators, sinks and cupboards. Residents have all the comforts of home with individual climate control, cable television connection, private telephone hookup and a built-in vanity/desk with a lighted mirror. Private bathrooms feature seated showers and handrails.
For meals, residents relish the manor's "restaurant style" dining room where they can order from a daily menu that features a selection of our chef's specialties. Themed dinners, social outings and leisure activities are scheduled on a regular basis.
Housekeeping, laundry services, light assistance and beautician and barber services are available to residents. Arrangements can be made for transportation to and from medical appointments. LPNs and nursing assistants are employed on site 24 hours a day to coordinate medical care and manage medication.
Sometimes older adults who live on their own or with family members may need temporary help. They could require short-term specialized nursing home care following an illness or
hospitalization. They might want to relocate from the cold Midwest winters to the more temperate climate in Hampton Roads during January and February. Or they might need somewhere to stay while their caregiver goes out-of-town on business or vacation.
In these and other situations where older adults could benefit from occasional assisted-living services, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center's Cedar Manor offers respite care.
The cost for respite care is $175 a day for assisted living and $205 a day for our memory care unit. The fees for the care include private rooms with shower, three meals daily and evening snacks, medication checks, housekeeping services and social activities.
An assessment to determine if an assisted-living setting is appropriate is required prior to resident acceptance, as well as tests for tuberculosis and a physical within 30 days of admission. Openings are based on room availability. Call 757-548-4192.
Memory Care Unit at Cedar Manor
Those in the later stages of Alzheimer's disease who are unable to manage daily living without assistance will find needed care and attention at the Memory Care Unit at Cedar Manor.
The secure wing has living areas for 12 older adults with severe memory loss. Ongoing therapeutic care is incorporated in daily activities and the living environment. The unit was designed with the philosophy to allow people to have their dementia however they are going to have it. The staff is trained in the latest dementia and validation therapies, and a physician visits the facility every other week unless requested more frequently by the nursing staff.
Way-finding assistance is found throughout the unit. For example, display cases with personal photographs and other memorabilia, have been installed at resident doorways to help them identify their rooms. Living areas include items from a more familiar past and meals are served family style. Other amenities create a warm, respectful home for residents who need specialized care.
To ensure residents safety, the EV2 real time, resident monitoring system has been installed. This state-of-the-art system personalizes patient tracking and location. It also provides each resident continuous calling capability from anywhere in the facility. Since residents wear the EV2 system it's always available, whereas wall mounted help call buttons are location specific.
The unit is one of only a handful of facilities in the state created exclusively for those with memory loss.
