Nurses receive annual awards


Two nurses at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center have received the organization’s highest clinical awards.

Hallice Waddell-Evans has been named the recipient of Chesapeake Regional’s annual Nurse Exemplar Award. Waddell-Evans is a registered nurse in Chesapeake Regional’s Cardiology services. She has worked at the hospital for more than 21 years, serving in many different posts.

Ruth Cody, R.N., the organization’s bariatric coordinator, was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Nurse Leadership Exemplar. Cody has served in several leadership roles as a registered nurse at Chesapeake Regional, most recently as unit director of 3 West.

In 2007, the Nurse Exemplar award was established by Chesapeake Regional’s Professional Nursing Council and chief nursing officer to recognize excellence in nursing. This year, the leadership exemplar award was added to include recognition for nursing leaders.

Waddell-Evans and Cody were selected from dozens of nominations submitted to council members, who have been elected to represent clinical areas throughout the organization. Selection was based on the nominees’ demonstrated qualities as a role model, professional excellence, specialty certification an role as a patient advocate.
