Medically Directed Programs
Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation
Chesapeake Regional Medical Center offers a cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program at the Lifestyle Center which address the physical, emotional and nutritional needs of individuals suffering from various forms of cardiovascular or pulmonary diseases. The physician is a major part of the care in these programs and is kept up to date on the progression and/or intervention of his or her patient.
Outpatient Cardiac Rehab
This is an insurance-reimbursed program for those who have cardiovascular disease and have recently had a cardiac intervention (heart attack, bypass, stents, valve replacement, etc.). It includes exercise, lectures and dietitian counseling. A diabetes educator is available. This is a physician-referred program and lasts six to 12 weeks.
Outpatient Pulmonary Rehab
This program is also insurance reimbursed and targeted for those with chronic lung disease (asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer). Participants receive exercise, diet counseling, lectures and have their own maintenance program when they complete the program. It is physician referred and lasts 8 to 12 weeks.
Supervised Exercise Training (S.E.T.)
This is perfect for someone who needs a supervised exercise and education program but have special needs, risk factors or desire individual attention. S.E.T. provides one-on-one instruction and personal attention during exercise to meet your unique needs. An exercise specialist will meet with you to establish health and wellness goals, evaluate your fitness levels and design a program just for you. You will be able to exercise, supervised by a health professional, in the Lifestyle Center. As you progress, you are encouraged to form your own exercise routine in a supportive setting. A staff member will be there to assist you, check your blood pressure, answer questions, and help you with self-monitoring.
You may want to consider S.E.T. if you have:
- Diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease
- Pulmonary disease
- Hypertension
- Obesity
- High cholesterol
- Two or more primary illness or risks indentified by the American College of Sports Medicine (to be determined by our professional staff)
