Discover the sheer joy of serving cancer patients

Hair stylists, nail technicians and other salon professionals will get an opportunity to learn appropriate precautions and techniques to care for woman dealing with breast and other forms of cancer Sept. 10 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center’s Breast Center.

The class will begin at 6 p.m. It is free and open to all those involved in hair and nail care.

In the class, specially trained health care professionals will teach ways to serve these women, who often face nail disfigurement, hair loss and skin changes because of their disease and its treatment.

“These are women with special needs who are facing a particularly emotional and challenging time in their lives,” said Anne Campbell-Maxwell, Chesapeake Regional’s oncology service line administrator. “This goal of the class is to help salon professionals address their needs and give them a feeling of normalcy and attention that they so need and deserve.”

The event is co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society and participants will receive information about American Cancer Society services as well.

At the conclusion of the class, attendees will receive a certificate and Breast Cancer Awareness Month kit of giveaways, educational materials and mammogram reminders to use for their salons during October.
