Emergency Services at
Chesapeake Regional Medical Center
Progress and road closure update
A commitment to this community
To continue to serve our community with the best possible emergency medicine, Chesapeake Regional officially kicks off the first phase of an $8.3 million expansion and renovation. When the project is completed in January 2010, the Emergency Department will be doubled in size, equipped with a larger, refurbished waiting area, newly configured entrance, high-tech work spaces, streamlined triage, additional treatment and diagnostic spaces, and a special psychiatric evaluation area.

The busiest Emergency Department in Hampton Roads
With more than 64,000 visits each year, the Emergency Department at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center is the busiest Emergency Room in Hampton Roads. Led by a veteran team of emergency physicians, critical care nurses and other specially trained staff, the Emergency Department has a long history of offering comprehensive, compassionate and efficient emergency care to local residents throughout the entire region.
The area's only nationally accredited Chest Pain Center
The new Emergency Department will also have a designated area for the medical center’s nationally accredited Chest Pain Center, the only one like it in Hampton Roads and only one of four in the state. The center provides the means to quickly and efficiently evaluate the causes of chest pains with an extensive monitoring system that includes advanced cardiac stress tests and an evaluation unit for individuals suffering pain without evidence of a heart attack.
Also equipped with areas for Express Care, separate Observation Unit and Rapid Admission Unit, the new Emergency Room promises to bring state-of-the-art critical care to a new level in the region.
