Organization makes healthy caregivers a priority

The American Heart Association has recognized Chesapeake Regional Medical Center as “Fit Friendly” for its efforts in promoting employees wellness.

The designation is part of the AHA’s Start! Fit-Friendly Companies initiative that encourages employers to create a culture at work that allows employees to live longer, heart-healthy lives.

“We are thrilled to be named a ‘Fit-Friendly’ company,” said Christopher Mosley, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center’s president and CEO. “As a regional healthcare provider, we believe it is important for our employees to stay healthy and active as another way to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to our community.”

One of the medical center’s initiatives in promoting employee wellness is through incentive programs. Employees are offered free annual health risk assessments and receive discounts to join an on-campus exercise facility. Motivational programs such as a “Maintain Don’t Gain” holiday weigh-ins, a three-month fitness incentive program, a “Poker Walk” and various workday lectures also encourage employee participation in healthy activities. In addition, healthy food options are available in the on-site cafeteria.

The organization is the only Chesapeake company, and the only hospital in the region to be recognized in this category. For more information about the Start! Program or the American Heart Association, visit www.heart.org.
