The Breast Center at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center has received a three-year accreditation and high praise for the comprehensive care it provides breast cancer patients.
The *National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons, found The Breast Center fully compliant in all 27 standards the national organization rates.
This accomplishment means:
- We are fully qualified to offer the full spectrum of interdisciplinary care to patients with breast disease.
- Our patients are afforded the most currently available forms of evaluation, treatment, and follow-up care.
- We have passed a rigorous evaluation by independent clinical surveyors, who have awarded us their nationally recognized seal of approval.
Our accreditation is a validation of the quality standard of care we give our patients. We are the only breast center in the area that has breast surgeons on-site. Our dedicated physicians and caring staff are among the reasons we stand out as one of the top breast centers in the nation.
Our commitment to quality
The prestigious accreditation by the NAPBC is only granted to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care. During the evaluation process, accredited centers must demonstrate proficiency in areas including leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.
Comprehensive care
Sarantou praised The Breast Center’s outreach education, prevention and early detection services as “outstanding,” and recognized its surgical group as “excellent.”
“The physicians, staff and administration are committed to quality care,” he said in his report.
The Breast Center offers women comprehensive breast health services, including the latest in breast imaging, diagnostics and cancer treatment, all in one convenient location. It is the only facility in the area with an American College of Radiology-accredited breast MRI program.
Other features of The Breast Center include board-certified radiation oncologists and radiologists specializing in breast imaging, biopsies within 24 hours, palliative care, a registered dietitian and pastoral care.
*The NAPBC represents a consortium of national, professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast.
