A Close Shave in ChesapeakeHow important are monthly self-breast exams? They might have saved the life of Chesapeake firefighter Heather Callahan, 35. Callahan was diagnosed with cancer at The Breast Center at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in October. She is undergoing chemotherapy and expects to be cancer free by spring.
In this video, Breast Center coordinator Teri Howell tells WVEC, "Great job for Heather to be doing self-breast exams and realize there was a lump in her breast, because she's really young to be getting mammograms." Callahan is a Chesapeake firefighter and more than 100 city firefighters shaved their heads on Jan. 29 to show their support for one of their own.
