Baby and Dog
This class will help you assess your dog's disposition and inclinations, and discuss practices to implement before baby arrives. It also will cover how to introduce baby to dog, and explore dog's changing life and attitude. The class is not only geared for baby's immediate family but is also for caregivers, family members and friends who have dogs and will care for baby. Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $20. Included in the $90 childbirth education package.
How To Parent Your Newborn
This two-part series gives the latest information on baby care and raising a happy, well-adjusted child.
Part I: The "how-to's" on umbilical cord care, feeding, bathing, diapering, temperature taking and much more. A life-sized doll or stuffed toy should be brought to this class for practice.
Part II: Since the love and nurturing you give now is the foundation for your child's happiness and self-assuredness in later years, our Certified Parent Educator will share the latest research on a variety of topics, including: infant attachment, temperament, personality and bonding.
Classes are held the first and second Monday of each month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Call 757.312.6508 to register. Cost: $35 per couple. (Included in childbirth package).
Boot Camp For New Dads
Are you ready to be a dad? This program is for first time fathers will tell you about newborn behaviors, practical strategies for living with a baby, what kind of support mom needs, parenting as a team and much more. "Veteran" dads will bring their own babies to practice with. To register, call 757.312.6508. Saturdays, 9 a.m.-noon. Cost: $20. Included in the $90 Childbirth Education Package.
Breastfeeding Basics
Whether new moms plan to breastfeed or are still unsure, this informative class can answer a wealth of questions to get them off to a good start. Dads and grandparents are encouraged to attend! Please bring a life-sized baby doll for practice. Classes are held the first Thursday of each month from 6:30-9 p.m. Call 757.312.6508 to register. Cost: $25 (Included in childbirth education package)
Lactation Consultation
Help is an appointment away. Trouble latching, soreness, insufficient supply, returning to work/school, teething or weaning problems? These all may be solved more quickly and easily by one of our Board-Certified Lactation Consultants.

Adult/Infant/Child Heartsaver CPR
This course teaches basic airway skills, CPR and safety on infants and children age 8 and older. A two-year certification card is issued upon successful demonstration of skills. All classes are held on selected Tuesdays, 6 to 9 p.m. Call 312.6132 for an updated schedule. Cost of $55 includes manual.
Support For Gestational Diabetes
Approximately 10 percent of women with no history of diabetes develop a temporary condition during pregnancy called "gestational diabetes." If you should develop it, we can provide complete support to ensure the health of you and your baby. Classes are held twice weekly at the Lifestyle Center. You'll learn about proper nutrition, exercise and how to control your blood sugars. We'll loan you a glucose meter and show you how to monitor your levels at home.
