Chesapeake General Hospital opens first hospital-based freestanding diagnostic center

June 2, 2004 — The area's first hospital-based, freestanding diagnostic center is now open at Chesapeake General Hospital. Located on the first floor of the W. Stanley Jennings Outpatient Center, the Diagnostic Center of Chesapeake officially opened for patients in May.

The 19,000-square-foot center brings together in one facility many of the hospital's diagnostic services including an additional MRI, a comprehensive breast center that includes mammography with ImageChecker technology and breast stereotactic, CT, bone densitometry, ultrasound and other radiology and laboratory services.

The center is designed to be an easy in and out for patients, said Bruce Kupper, vice president of ambulatory and surgical services. There is close parking to the center's entrance and it's only a short walk to the testing areas once you are inside.

The center is open from 7 a.m. until 7:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Same day appointments are available as well as those needed within 24 hours. DCC accepts all commercial insurance, including Optima. For more information, call 757.312.6137.
