Chesapeake Health offers free clinical breast cancer screenings

Sept. 29, 2004 — Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55. But the good news is that when breast cancer is detected early, the five-year survival rate is 96 percent.

Because early detection is the best way to fight this disease, the Chesapeake Health family is offering free clinical breast cancer screenings Thursday, Oct. 28, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Diagnostic Center of Chesapeake in the W. Stanley Jennings Outpatient Center.

General surgeons, obstetricians and gynecologists will perform the clinical breast exams. If the doctors find something out of the ordinary, the patient will be eligible for a discounted mammogram.

Women who participate in the screenings will receive a free breast care kit, compliments of the Chesapeake Health Foundation. The kit includes a breast self-exam shower card, bookmark, reminder stickers, information from the American Cancer Society and mammography guidelines.

Displays on women's health issues will also be exhibited throughout the screening times.

To schedule an appointment, call 757.312.6132. Appointments are limited, so call early.
