ICU nurse named Chesapeake’s best
July 29, 2005 — Denise Duncker, a registered nurse at Chesapeake General Hospital, has been named the Ruritan Club of Chesapeake’s Nurse of the Year.

The Virginia Beach resident has worked at CGH for 15 years – the last five in CGH’s fourth-floor intensive care unit.
She was nominated by CGH unit directors for the award. They selected her, partly, because of all the positive letters and kudos they had received about her from patients and family members.
“I was surprised…and deeply honored,” she said. “I’ve always known to treat everybody like family. If you do that, you can never go wrong.”
Nursing is all in the family at the Duncker household. Husband, Rick, is a nurse on CGH’s 3 West unit. The couple has two children, an 11-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son.
