Public health education classes are set in September

Sept. 2, 2005 — Chesapeake Health will sponsor several public health education classes during September. All are held at the Lifestyle Center – Chesapeake General Hospital, 800 N. Battlefield Blvd. in Chesapeake.

  • Adult Heartsaver CPR
    This four-hour course trains the lay public to perform one-person CPR and obstructed airway management. It is set for Monday, Sept. 12, from 6-10 p.m. A two-year certification card is issued after students pass skills and written tests. This course is recommended for construction companies, professional offices and industries. Cost is $45 and includes the textbook.
  • Healthcare Provider CPR
    This comprehensive course covers one- and two-person CPR and obstructed airway management for adults, children and infants. Students also learn how to use barrier devices and an Automated External Defibrillator. A two-year certification card is issued after students pass skills and written tests. A pocket mask/barrier device is required for this course and may be purchased before class. Sessions are set for Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $55 (which includes the text).
  • Infant/Child Heartsaver CPR
    This four-hour course is for parents, teachers, babysitters and day care workers who need to learn basic airway skills, CPR and safety techniques for infants and children up to age 8. A two-year certification card is issued upon students pass skills and written tests. The cost is $45 and includes the textbook. Sessions are set from 6-10 p.m., Tuesdays, Sept. 13.
  • Basic First Aid/Adult CPR
    This Level 1 first aid course teaches skills needed to recognize and treat emergencies. It is ideal for construction company employees, child caregivers, lifeguards and babysitters. Instructors are fully certified by the American Heart Association. Cost is $55 and includes the textbook. The next session is scheduled for 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22.
