New chief nursing officer at CGH is appointed

Nov. 8, 2005 — Elaine Griffiths, R.N., has been named the new chief nursing officer and vice president of professional services, at Chesapeake General Hospital.

She assumed her new position Nov. 2. In her new role, Griffiths will be responsible for overseeing a nursing staff of 586. She will play a key leadership role in ensuring that the hospital maintains the highest quality of patient care, and serve as the chief advocate for the professional development of the nursing staff. She is also charged with sustaining strong, collaborative relationships with the hospital’s medical staff.

Griffiths comes to CGH from Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va., where she served as vice president of patient care and chief nursing officer. She has also held senior leadership nursing positions at Metropolitan Hospital and Kent Community Hospital, both in Grand Rapids, Mich., and at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, N.J.

A former president of the Michigan Organization of Nurse Executives, Griffiths is a member of Sigma Theta Tau national nursing honor society, the American Organization of Nurse Executives, the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine Council of Teaching Hospitals and the University of Virginia School of Nursing Advisory Board.

She received a bachelor’s degree and master’s of management degree at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich.
