Chesapeake Health CEO receives national honor
April 13, 2006 — Christopher Mosley, CHE, president and CEO of Chesapeake Health, has been selected as one of the Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine.
The list appears in the magazine’s April 10 edition, and is the first time Modern Healthcare has recognized the country’s key minority executives.
“It’s such an honor to be selected by your peers,” said Mosley. “There are so many deserving people around the country who are worthy of this honor and I feel humbled to be among such a distinguished group.”
Mosley was cited by the magazine for his leadership since arriving to serve as CEO at Chesapeake Health in January 2005 after the retirement of longtime president Donald S. Buckley. The magazine noted that Mosley has spearheaded a successful transition in leadership, helped to craft new strategies to position the organization for a positive future, led a team effort to improve the financial stability of the organization and continued to garner community support by interfacing with key stakeholders on a regular basis. Mosley’s efforts in enhancing employees’ and leadership’s professional and personal development were also cited by the magazine.
“Whatever recognition coming my way, I share with many others,” Mosley noted. “Our success this last year has truly been a team effort by our Chesapeake Hospital Authority members, management, physicians, staff and the community at large.”
In addition to his leadership at Chesapeake Health, Mosley was also recognized by the magazine for his service as the 2005-2007 president of the National Association of Health Services Executives. Modern Healthcare cited his efforts in leading the organization to fulfill its missions of professional development for African American healthcare executives at all levels of their careers, enhanced industry diversity, disparities in healthcare outcomes and student mentoring.
The professional organization was founded in 1968 and is headquartered in Silver Spring, Md.
“We are so proud of Chris and congratulate him on this wonderful honor,” said Douglas Carson, Chesapeake Hospital Authority chairman. “His dedication, skill and commitment to our organization and to the healthcare industry as a whole are admirable.”
An editorial review board of six of the magazine’s senior editors reviewed more than 100 nominations and selected the candidates on their success as a leader, ability to effect change, willingness to share expertise with others, serve as a role model to other minority executives and leadership outside of their own organization or company.
A weekly news-driven publication, Modern Healthcare is considered one of healthcare’s preeminent industry publications.
