Chesapeake Health Becomes Chesapeake Regional Medical Center

Sept. 9, 2007 – CHESAPEAKE – Chesapeake Health has changed its name to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. The public announcement came late this afternoon from hospital CEO and President Christopher Mosley.

The business move was inspired by the reality of the organization’s growth, Mosley said.

“Adding the word ‘regional’ reflects who we have become,” the CEO and President noted. “Today, four out of every ten, or 40 percent, of our patients live outside of Chesapeake. In so many ways, it has become evident that we have become the region’s choice for healthcare. We wanted to recognize that.”

The organization’s family of providers include Chesapeake General Hospital, The Birthplace, The Diagnostic Center of Chesapeake, The Surgery Center of Chesapeake, Georgian Manor and Cedar Manor assisted-living facilities, ComfortCare Home Health and Hospice, the Lifestyle Center, the Sidney M. Oman Cancer Treatment Center, the Sleep Center and the Outer Banks Hospital.

Chesapeake General Hospital will continue as the cornerstone of the full-service, independent healthcare organization. The acute care facility’s name will remain the same.

Mosley noted that the hospital has become the “No. 1” choice of families delivering babies in Hampton Roads. The Emergency Department now treats more patients than any other hospital in the region. And CGH was recently ranked No. 1 for its interventional cardiology performance outcomes by a national professional organization.

“With our accomplishments in oncology, sleep medicine and our other specialties, you can see we have become a regional force in medical care,” Mosley said.

Later this month, the organization will be reintroduced to the Hampton Roads region with a bold new print, broadcast, internet and outdoor advertising campaign.

“It is important to note,” said Mosley, “that nothing will change in the way that we do business. We will continue our strong service to the community by remaining the region’s only independent medical center.”
